OK, never mind.

I just discovered where the journal feature is on Sparkpeople, and I think I'll use that instead, since that's where I'll be recording my food.

So this blog goes back into hibernation.

Lazy

Laziness is my biggest problem. I get home after work and my foot is screaming at me and it's just more than I can conceive of to stand in the kitchen cooking. So I take the easy route ~ fast food or something I can just throw in the oven or microwave. Last night it was freakin fried chicken strips. Mike loved them. But that put me about 50 calories and 20 grams of fat over where I need to be.

I went back to my yogurt and granola breakfast this morning and I was appalled to see the calorie total. With the banana and the tsp of honey it came to about 550 calories! It put me halfway to my potassium goal though. I figure breakfast really should be the biggest meal of the day. If I can just control myself for the other two.

A return to the roots of this blog

This started out as my weight loss journal, then I discovered how much fun it was to talk about other things, and then I discovered how many of my friends were on MySpace, and so I pretty much abandoned this blog.

I am making a committment to getting healthy again, so I think it's time for me to resurrect the original purpose of this thing and blog about that here.

I'm enjoying the Sparkpeople web site; it has a food tracker that keeps up with all your essential nutrients, and that's great because I'm trying to make sure I get plenty of potassium. It also has a huge online community forum, but I haven't had time to check it out much.

Sparkpeople has the most realistic attitude toward weight loss that I've ever seen on a weight loss site. They say that people who actually keep the weight off after losing, have certain things in common, and one is that they keep up with everything that goes in their mouth. So that's my plan right now. Nothing beyond that, for now. I just want to get a good idea of what I'm eating, and drinking. Of course, the act of recording it alone is a deterrent to chowing down on something horrid. But in the last couple of days, I've recorded such diet no-no's as Sweet Sue Chicken & Dumplings and Cheesy Doritos and I'm staying within my caloric and fat guidelines.

I'm having trouble keeping that potassium level up though, so I think that's what's going to drive me toward healthier food. Green leafy veggies, mushrooms, and yogurt are good sources. I normally eat plain yogurt every day but lately I've just been having cereal with skim milk. I guess I definitely need to get back into my yogurt habit. Until last week, I was eating a little more than one of the gigantic containers of plain yogurt every week for breakfast, with sliced banana (more potassium), low-fat granola and berries.

Enough for now.
